Incredible project. ML features are resource-hungry but worth it.
Hardware docs need work. Plan for more RAM than you think.
Migrated 120k photos from Google Photos. The import tool worked flawlessly and facial recognition picked up where Google left off. Running on a Raspberry Pi 5 with an SSD.
How's the Pi 5 handling the ML tasks? I'm debating between Pi 5 and a mini PC for my setup.
Initial indexing took ~3 days for 120k photos. After that it's near-instant for new uploads. Totally fine for a family of 4.
The mobile app is genuinely good — auto-backup works as reliably as Google Photos. My wife didn't even notice we switched.
Docker Compose setup is clean but resource-hungry. Plan for at least 4GB RAM if you're running ML features. The docs could be clearer about hardware requirements.
